This website has been inspired and based on the website of the Via Alpina: www.via-alpina.org. The information in the Via Alpina website is written in German, French, Italian, Slovenian (the four official languages spoken in the Alpine region) and also in English. In this website the Stages are hyperlinked to the stages in the English version of the Via Alpina website.

The five Trails of the Via Alpina are described in the next sub-pages. The Red Trail consists of 162 stages for one-day hikes starting in Muggia (Trieste), Italy and ending in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The Purple Trail consists of 66 stages, starting in Tržaška koča na Doliču, Slovenia and ending in Oberstdorf, Germany. The Yellow Trail consists of 40 stages, starting in Muggia (Trieste), Italy and ending in Oberstdorf, Germany. The Green Trail consists of 15 stages, starting in Sücka, Liechtenstein and ending in Lenk, Switzerland. The Blue Trail consists of 61 stages, starting in Riale, Italy and ending in Sospel, France.
