Nice raclette at Monika and Olivier’s and a trip through the heartland of Switzerland

Hotel Plattenhof is a nice hotel in a quiet neighbourhood, near the University. Yesterday morning it was even more quiet, because it was Sunday morning… Hotel Plattenhof calls itself a design hotel and that is true. Everywhere is trendy, but especially functional design, also in the hotel rooms. Even in the corridors and in the stairwell was multi-coloured design! Continue reading

Walking in the rain and in the sunshine…

Yesterday, August 9th, I woke up with only minor muscle pain after my wild hiking adventure on Stage 69 of the Red Trail of the Via Alpina the day before: from Taufers i.M. over the Rifair Scharte and the Glurnser Köpfl back to Glurns and Mals. That morning I have just taken a picture of the Glurnser Köpfl in the morning sun…! Continue reading

Nature along the coast and a cave in the mountains

Yesterday, April 29th, I set off to finally complete the Stage B3 of the Yellow Trail: last year on May 14th 2018 I took the wrong direction somewhere between Prosecco and Sistiana and arrived at the railway station of Bivio d’Aurisana in the pouring rain. At the same railway station I started in good spirits for the end of the stage. Now I had the opportunity to have a look at the marble quarry of Cava Romana through the gate and over the fence… Continue reading

Back in Trieste again!

My trip by train from Salzburg to Villach went upstream at first along the river the Salzach, that had been back in Salzburg a rather wide stream, but that the further south we came grew smaller and smaller between mountains that grew higher. Their names appear in the descriptions of the stages of the Via Alpina! Continue reading

The Nature and Culture Trail Dala – Raspille

Today I achieved an interesting hike from Leukerbad by Inden and Varen to Leuk. It took me in total 5½ hours ‒ it was really worthwhile. Continue reading

A walk through Muggia

This morning at breakfast I couldn’t believe my eyes: I have never seen so many sweet dishes at a breakfast buffet! The lemon pie is my favourite, followed by chocolate rolls… And tiny cups of very strong espresso to wake up! Strengthened by so much sugar I set off to Muggia, where the first stage of the Via Alpina starts: Muggia to the Permuda Hut. Therefore I had to take the bus, Line 20. One has to buy a ticket in advance, because that is not possible on the bus, but surely at the many little booths – one can find one on the corner of every street. Continue reading
