The calmness and the force of water

Today a second voyage by ship was on my program: from the harbour of Constance to Schaffhausen over the western part of the Lake Constance, the Untersee, and the start of the navigable river Rhine to Schaffhausen. Zeppelin and many reminders of the 1944/1945 bombing

Today it is D-Day, the day on which in the whole world attention is paid to the first day of the Operation Overlord. The Allied started an operation with amphibious landings – on the largest scale ever seen in history – on the coasts of Normandy to set in motion the liberation of Western Europe and to put an end to the Nazi-German siege. However it would still take until May 1945 before the Second World War had definitively ended (in Europe). We can count ourselves lucky that we have been able to keep peace for already 75 years! A mountain track by train and evening atmosphere by the water

This morning I left Arnhem by train just after nine o’clock to go to Offenburg in the southern part of Germany. There I changed trains to Constance at the Lake Constance: this Schwarzwaldexpess (Black Forest Railway) connects Karlsruhe to the north of Offenburg with Constance at Lake Constance through the middle part of the Black Forest.
