“Places of power” and a battle by General Suvorov in 1799

This morning the rain came pouring down again. Therefore I have the opportunity to tell about the past days in Andermatt which I found very special. Actually by chance I was able to attend the commemoration ceremonies around the Russian “Generalissimus Suworow” and his heroic actions in the Schöllenen Gorge during his battle with Napoleon’s troops on September 24th and 25th 1799, now 220 years ago. Through the fog and over the “Energie-Spürweg” (“Feel the energy trail”)

Early this morning I looked out of my window to check on the weather and then I saw an historical locomotive in the railway station: it was the “Krokodil” (the “crocodile”) dating from 1929, a locomotive with “cult status”! This is the showpiece of the Rhaetian Railways. Continue reading

Waterfalls and ibexes

Yesterday I arrived in Weisstannen, the place where I ended my hike on the Green Trail of the Via Alpina in the end of the month of July.
